Classes
the traditional way of teaching Ashtanga.
students do their own practice in a group setting with the individual guidance of a teacher - this is the most effective method of learning the ashtanga sysyem. beginners are encouraged to take these classes as they practice at their own pace and ability and are given one-on-one assistance in memorizing the sequence and learning the breath and correct vinyasa (breath movement coordination).
students are led through the entire primary series of Ashtanga experiencing traditional pacing and vinyasa.
students are led through the entire primary series but are given the option to do only half series (stopping at navasana). a good class for beginners as well as more experienced students. less experienced students practice to their own level of knowledge and get to observe the full sequencing of primary.
second series poses are added after students are led through the full primary series practice – a good class for students who want to learn the sequencing of intermediate series.
this class covers poses to navasana (half of primary series) with attention to the fundamentals of the practice ujjayi breath, energy locks (bandhas), breath movement coordination (vinyasa) and gaze point (drishti). a good starting point for students who what to learn the ashtanga system; also good for experienced students who want to get back to basics and have a shorter practice.
students are welcome to come and do their own practice during these times, a teacher may or may not be present.
